Virginia Kas, 93, of Janesville passed away peacefully on March 25, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on June 20, 1930, in Janesville, the daughter of Hugh and Agnes (Monaghan) McCann. Virginia graduated from Janesville High School in 1948.
Virginia married Hartzell Kas on May 21, 1955, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. In her early years, she worked as Dorothy’s “right-hand girl,” being promoted to receptionist and bookkeeper for Dorothy’s Beauty Salon. She also worked as a legal secretary for Parker Pen Company.
Virginia was a very selfless, caring and warmhearted caregiver to her whole family, including her lifelong devotion to her sister Phyllis. Virginia served as a foster parent for Rock County for many years. She enriched our lives with her Irish wit, humor, laughter and childhood stories, which made for a happy home. She was the best Grandma and babysitter to her 12 much adored grandchildren. They were her pride and joy. Virginia was 100% Irish and was extremely proud of it! In 2005, she traveled to Ireland with her daughters, which fulfilled her life-long dream. She thoroughly enjoyed going to New York Broadway shows and her children’s and grandchildren’s multi sport and music events. She was so proud of her family!
Virginia is survived by her children; Barbara Jo (Paul) Schultz, Jeff (Jackie) Kas, Greg (Bobbie) Kas, Jon (Cindy) Kas, Jenny Kas (Michael Aguirre), Jackie (Jim) Trybula, JoAnn Hauck, grandchildren; Ashley, Andrew, Rachel, Jennifer, Haley, Nichole, Jared, Christopher, Jake, Lucas, Hunter and Dylan, great grandchildren; Grant, Carsten, Thomas, Poppy, Miles and Nora, and other relatives and friends. Virginia was preceded in death by her husband Hartzell, her parents and her six siblings, Jerry, Rosemary, Phyllis, Tom, Bob and Richard.
Special thanks for the compassionate support provided by Robert and nurses Sharon and Hannah from SSM Hospice. Also, thanks to George who touched us all with his Irish singing.
