SIMPSONVILLE, SC/JANESVILLE, WI - Surrounded by the love of her family, Victoria Elaine Buehl unexpectedly, yet peacefully, departed this world on Tuesday, January 2, 2024, in Greenville, South Carolina. Born on July 21, 1951, in Edgerton, WI to Rolland (Bud) and Elaine (Meissner) Holliday, Vicki was the much-anticipated baby girl, joining her two older brothers to round out the Holliday family. A 1970 graduate of J.A. Craig High School, Vicki went on to receive her Associate Degree in Secretarial Science from Madison Area Technical College. Soon after, it was a blind date to the Rock County 4-H Fair that kickstarted a true love story, and one that would last over 51 years, when she met and married James Buehl. Together, they raised their three kids, becoming active throughout their athletic activities in the Janesville community. Working for over 25 years for the Janesville Public School system, Vicki retired to care for her ailing parents. Family first always, her dedication and care never wavered. After living in Janesville for over 62 years, Vicki and Jim set their sights south to be closer to family, settling their new home in Simpsonville, South Carolina. Where she greeted each and every day with peace and serenity, in the form of a warm cup of coffee and a great book.
Vicki saw her world in the most beautiful rose-colored hues. A forever optimist, she always had a unique way of seeing the good in all things. It showed in her dedication and gentle influence on children, whether it was through the raising of her own family, assisting a generation of kids through the ranks at Jefferson Elementary School, volunteering weekly to fill backpacks for food insecure children in her community or fully immersing herself in the lives of her grandchildren. Family truly was everything to her, up until her very last breath. Spending countless hours cheering from the stands at swim meets or basketball games or on the sidelines at cross country meets. Admiring many dance recitals, from Wisconsin, South Carolina, Texas, and Virginia. Planning special wilderness adventures in the Great Smokey Mountains or cruising the Bahamas with just the grandkids. Baking homemade gingerbread houses every holiday season and always hosting the most delectable meals that could rival any Midwestern grandmother. Creating handmade quilts for her grandchildren to commemorate graduations. Tapestries with so many childhood memories, custom created out of love, stitch-by-stitch. Most importantly though, she lived to love. With a strength of character, and a softness and warmth that made everyone feel at home.
Vicki is survived by the love of her life, her husband of 51 years, James Buehl; daughters, Stephanie (Donny) Churchman and Stacey (Matt) Moseley; son, Brett (Sara) Buehl; grandchildren, Madeleine, Morgan, Leyton, Tysen, Evan, Ella, Kennedy, Reid, Evelyn, Ainsley and Isla; her two brothers, John (Ilo) Holliday and Mike (Jan) Holliday; and her special companion, Boots.
She is preceded in death by her parents; mother and father-in-law, Willard and Betty Buehl; and granddaughter, Kate Buehl.
As a lifelong member of Cargill United Methodist Church, Vicki is returning home for her final service. Friends and family are invited for a visitation from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on Monday, January 8, 2024, followed by a funeral service at 11:30 a.m. Rev. Amy Powell will officiate.
