Shirley M. Pennycook, age 92, of Janesville passed away April 24, 2020 at Oak Park Place. She was born November 21, 1927 in Milton, WI, the daughter of Clarence and Frances (Patterson) Carroll. She graduated from Milton Union High School in 1945. She was married on May 1, 1948 to Frank J. Pennycook at the Milton Congregational Church. Shirley was employed by Siker Furniture Company from February 1968 until she retired in January 1992. Shirley was a member of St. John Lutheran Church where she was active in the Altar Guild, worked on funeral luncheons and taught Bible School. She was a member of Rebekah Lodge # 26 where she served as Noble Grand in 1960. She was a member of Janesville Elk’s Ladies and served as their president in 1983-1984 and 1995-1996. Shirley enjoyed cake decorating, especially wedding cakes, and cross stitching. Shirley’s motto was “Never too busy not to be friendly.”, a motto her high school classmates gave her and stayed with her though out her life. Shirley is survived by three children; Judy (David) Ciaglo, Jim (Sheila) Pennycook, Jon (Michelle) Pennycook; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews. Shirley was preceded in death by her husband of nearly 72 years, Frank Pennycook on April 17, 2020. She was also preceded in death by her parents, three sisters and their husbands Mary and Dick Brookins, Sandy and Dave McCulloch, Audrey and Gordon Pennycook; one brother-in-law and his wife Robert and Karen Pennycook; and one granddaughter. Due to the present health concerns, a memorial service for Shirley and Frank will be held at a later date. Private burial will be in Milton Lawns Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to the Janesville Elks Lodge # 254 Scholarship Fund. The family is being assisted by Henke-Clarson Funeral Home.
