Melvin A. Lefoll Jr.

November 1, 1935 — February 28, 2024

Melvin Alfred LeFoll Jr. of Janesville passed away on February 28, 2024 at Huntington Place. He was 88 years old. Melvin was born in Rockford, IL on November 1, 1935, the son of Melvin A. LeFoll Sr. and Mabel (Tubbs) LeFoll. He graduated from Janesville High School in 1954 where he was an outstanding athlete. He was a member of the Big 8 Conference championship basketball team and was a member of the football and track teams.


Melvin served in the U. S. Army and graduated from officers training school. While in the Army, he worked his way up to Captain and taught jungle warfare.


Melvin married Elaine A. Elfers on June 28,1958 at St. John Lutheran Church. He was employed by General Motors for 30 years as a supervisor.


Mel was well-known in Janesville golf circles. He participated in numerous city golf tournaments and was proud of his hole-in-one. He served as the golf pro and manager of Janesville Blackhawk Golf Course for several years. Mel also taught golf for the Janesville Leisure Services for many years.


Mel was an active member of Janesville American Legion Post # 205 and made many close friends during his time there. He was proud to have been a member of a Veterans Honor Flight.


Melvin is survived by his wife of 65 years, Elaine; his daughter, Marie (Rob) Halverson; his granddaughter, Taylor Halverson; sisters-in-law, Gert LeFoll, Janice Elfers and Bonnie Elfers; brother-in-law, Kevin (Sandy) Elfers, numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Melvin LeFoll Sr; his mother Mabel Short; step-father Hugh Short; his brother Gary LeFoll; father-in-law and mother-in-law Walter and Marie (Hiller) Elfers; brothers-in-law Wayne Elfers, Arnold Elfers; sisters-in-law, Marlene (Wayne) Winnie and Bonnie (Ed) Trapp.


A private family service will be held at a future date. Entombment will be in the Veterans Wall of the Milton Lawns Memorial Park Mausoleum.
