La Verne R. "Bud" Strand

La Verne R. “Bud” Strand, age 99 of Janesville, WI passed away on July 11, 2024 at Mercy Hospital, Janesville. Bud was born September 9, 1924, in Hollandale, Iowa County, WI, the son of Ole J. and Marie (Vinger) Strand. He was baptized and confirmed in the Hollandale Lutheran Church. He graduated from Hollandale High School in 1942. He was united in marriage to Helen J. Gratton, his high school sweetheart on June 25, 1943. They moved to Janesville in 1946.

Bud served in the U. S. Navy during World War II. He was employed as a machinist most of his life. He also worked in real estate and was a member of the Janesville Board of Realtors and M L S. Bud was a member of First Lutheran Church since 1951. He was active with the church grounds maintenance group for many years. He also was a volunteer driver for Rock County Transit for several years.

Bud and Helen took many trips around the country, traveling to all 50 states, visiting points of interest in each state. They always looked forward to returning to their Florida home in Bradenton each winter where they made many good friends over the years. Bud enjoyed the outdoors and on most sunny days could be seen working on his lawn. Bud was a walker walking three to five miles a day. He and Helen also enjoyed yoga and silver sneakers exercise classes.

Bud is survived by his wife of 81 years, Helen; son, Richard R. Strand and his wife Sharon; nieces Betty Nelson and Patricia Mueller. He was preceded in death by his sister, Dorothy Bollerud as well as his parents.

A memorial service will be held in the Cedar Crest Chapel on Thursday, July 18, 2024 at 1:00 p.m. Chaplain Cameron Rebarchek will officiate. Private entombment will be in Milton Lawns Memorial Park Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Lutheran Church Foundation or Cedar Crest Foundation.
