Joyce Ellen Garvoille

Joyce Ellen Garvoille, age 77, of Janesville, WI passed away at her home on Sunday. March 9, 2025. She was born on October 23, 1947, in Sparta, WI, the daughter of Thoburn and Freda (Emry) Devine. The family farmed in Wilton, WI until 1962 when they moved to Brooklyn, WI.

Joyce and Dick Garvoille met in 1962 at the local drug store when they were both 14 years old. Joyce was looking for the bus and Dick was sitting on a stool sipping his malt. He shrugged his shoulders, too busy sipping his malt to give directions. However, she must have caught his eye because as time went on Dick knew that was the girl he wanted to marry and on May 6, 1967, they were united in marriage. Joyce was employed as a telephone operator for two years and later as a teachers aid at Wilson School for seven years. She then went to Blackhawk Technical College where she received a degree as a registered nurse in 1993. She was employed for 13 years at Rock Haven prior to retiring. In retirement, she served as a dossier at Milton House. Joyce was a member of Cargill United Methodist Church.

Joyce Garvoille is survived by her husband of 57 years, Richard “Dick” Garvoille; sons, Matthew (Angie) Garvoille, Russ (Tanya) Garvoille; grandchildren, Alex Garvoille (Makenna), Samuel Garvoille (Yasmilet), Thoburn (Leigha) Garvoille, Megan Garvoille (Benjamin); great grandchild, Brooks Garvoille, sister-in-law, Donna Devine; many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Joyce was preceded in death by her siblings, Glenn Devine, Lois (George) Newman, Clara (Bob) Haldemann, Larry (Ginny) Devine, Virginia Faulkner and Douglas (Karen) Devine.

Services will be held at 4 p.m. Friday, March 14, 2025, at HENKE-CLARSON FUNERAL HOME, 1010 N. Wright Road, Janesville. Rev. Amy Powell will officiate.
