ROCKLIN, CALIFORNIA - John Arthur Schuneman, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away at his home in Rocklin, California on April 24, 2023, at the age of 88. Born in Beloit, Wisconsin, on April 13, 1935, John dedicated much of his life to serving his country and providing for his family.
John is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Ginny Schuneman; one daughter from a previous marriage, Jane Anger; two stepsons, John and Ralph Romero; and his half-sister, Janet Myers.
He is predeceased by his daughters, Linda Hastings and Jill Weyand; son, Mark Schuneman; half-sister, Jeanne Meichtry; and brother, LaVern Schuneman.
John’s patriotism and sense of duty led him to serve in the U.S. Air Force for twenty years. During his time in the military, he obtained top-secret clearance and worked in the spy program as an Electronic Warfare System Tech throughout the Cold War, contributing significantly to national security. Upon retiring from the military, John transitioned to a civilian in surveillance recording technology with Datatape, where he continued to excel and demonstrate his unwavering work ethic, maintaining his top-secret clearance for twenty years.
John was an avid and skilled bowler who participated in numerous leagues and tournaments. He shared this enthusiasm with his family, teaching his children and grandchildren the art of the game. His love for the sport and the joy it brought to his family is remembered fondly by all who had the privilege of sharing those cherished moments.
John was a proud grandfather to Michael and John Casillas, Charles and Carly Anger, Katrina Rittman, Jordan Romero, Shanna Gray, Taylor Romero, John Collin Nevius, Michael Romero, Steven Romero, Lillia Romero, Maezza Brathwaite-Romero, Donovan Brathwaite-Romero, and Avalon Brathwaite-Romero. He also cherished his role as a great-grandfather to Victoria and Joseph Romero.
John is remembered as a steadfast, devoted, and honest man, always willing to lend a hand and support his country, family and friends. His life inspires those he leaves behind, and his memory will be treasured by all who were fortunate enough to have known him.
In honor of John’s life and legacy, a private family graveside service will commemorate and celebrate his achievements and contributions with military honors at Emerald Grove Cemetery, rural Janesville, Wis.
