James Joseph Mccalmont

August 28, 1951 — January 13, 2024

James Joseph McCalmont went home to be with his heavenly father on January 13, 2024. He was born to Joseph and Beatrice (Witcraft) McCalmont on August 28, 1951, in Janesville, WI. He went to George S Parker High School and graduated in 1969. James enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1970 and was very proud to serve our country until 1974. He was stationed on an island off the 38th parallel in Korea during the Vietnam War. James worked at Utzig Carstar and IKON. He loved helping, meeting, and talking to people about faith and God. James’ true love were his family and fishing. He married the love of his life, Carolee Puntney, on June 28, 1975. He spent many hours fishing with anyone who would go with. He had a fierce love of God that showed in everything he did. James remained a happy, super-fantastic man until the end. His infamous Papa hugs will be missed.

His children, Andrew (Jenn) McDermid, Luke McCalmont, and Alisa (Jacob Crawford) McCalmont, were the pride of his life. He enjoyed any time with his sons, but especially fishing with Luke and going to various places to review food and menus online. He spent time with Alisa at the resort and farm, fixing and tinkering with Jacob. His grandchildren, John (Anna Lichwa) McDermid, Jennifer McDermid, Malia McCalmont, Juliana Pritchard, Aiden McCalmont, and Catriona McCalmont were the source of much joy. His first great-grandchild, Emilia Lichwa-McDermid, was born November 4, 2022. James is survived by his brothers, Chuck (Jeanine) McCalmont, Mark (Patti) McCalmont, Patrick (Michelle) McCalmont, Mike McCalmont, Tommy McCalmont, and sister, Sara (Johnny) Payne. His brothers-in-law and sister-in-law, Tracy Puntney, Leta (Terry) Phernetton, and Curt (Sue) Puntney were among his most favorite company, having weekly Friday Movie nights and Sunday dinner. He has many beloved nieces and nephews. Thea (Micky) Muniz, Chad Puntney, and Cara Dean were like his children, and he enjoyed many hours fishing on Thea’s farm, building with Chad, long conversations with Cara, and babysitting his great nieces, Celia, Amina, and Ivy. He enjoyed time with his best friend, Steven Thomson, discussing a great many things over a good Scotch. His great joy was family, and he loved his many cousins, nieces, nephews, brothers, sisters, and friends greatly. His most treasured moments of all were any fishing he could with Aiden, his calls with Jennifer, watching movies with his Jules, and cooking, fishing, and gardening with his “Roc”.

James was preceded in death by his parents, Joe & Bea McCalmont, his aunt and uncle, Mary & Dave Utzig, Scott Utzig, his mother and father-in-law, Fred and Florence Wallmuth, his brother-in-law, Wayne Puntney, and his niece, Rose McCalmont.

Thanks to our family at City of Hope and friend Ed Morse for the love and prayers.
