Irmgard May

Irmgard May, age 97, of Janesville, WI passed away on November 7, 2019 at Cedar Crest Health Center. She was born in Germany on September 4, 1922 the daughter of Leonard and Martha (Fredrick) Auchtung. The family came to the United States in 1923. Irmgard became a naturalized citizen of the United States at Columbus, WI on December 1, 1947. She married Robert Herwig on November 6, 1943. She later married Joseph May on May 22, 1993 who preceded her in death on January 12, 2001. Irmgard was a stay at home mom when her children were growing up. She also babysat numerous children. She was later employed as a housekeeper by Caravilla Nursing Home and Cedar Crest. Irmgard was an extremely hard worker who enjoyed gardening, cooking, sewing, canning and most importantly, caring for her family. She was a member of Turning Point Church. Surviving are her children; Gary (Karen) Herwig, Robert (Carol) Herwig, Dan (Linda) Herwig, Harlan (Linda) Herwig, Pamela (Gregg) Arneson, Heidi (Steve) Johnson; her foster daughter: Gudrun (David) Braker;13 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by both of her husbands; two grandsons Joshua Herwig and Justin Herwig; as well as her parents; three sisters and two brothers Funeral services will be at Noon Wednesday, November 13, 2019 at First Baptist Church, 3414 Woodhall Drive, Janesville. Rev. Tom Zillman will officiate. Visitation will be held at First Baptist Church on Wednesday from 10 a.m. until the time of services.
