Harry Merrifield, Jr.

Harry Merrifield Jr. of Janesville passed away at his home on April 18, 2024, at age 98. He was born April 17, 1926, at Mercy Hospital, Janesville, the son of Harry and Beth (Waufle) Merrifield. For the first 17 years of his life, he resided in Milton Junction and graduated from Milton Union High School in 1944. Following graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served for three years in the Pacific.

Harry married Barbara Recht in Rockford, IL on April 29, 1951. They had four children, Vic, David, John, and Beth. Barbara passed away in 1984. In December of 1985, Harry married Joan Affeldt who had two children, Patti Flores and Steve Affeldt.

Harry was employed as a computer programmer by General Motors for 32 years. He was a member of the American Legion, Moose Lodge, and amateur radio operators (N9RLK). He was a volunteer at Rotary Gardens and for Hospice.

Harry is survived by his wife, Joan; his children, Victor, David (Linda), John, Beth, Steve (Carmen) and Patti; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild. In addition to his first wife, Barbara, and his parents, he was preceded in death by his half-brother, Bob (Clara Mae) Wells.

In lieu of other expressions of sympathy memorials may be made to Mercyhealth Hospice.

A visitation will be held from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. on Friday, April 26, 2024, at HENKE-CLARSON FUNERAL HOME, 1010 N. Wright Road with services following at 3 p.m. at the funeral home. Chaplain Dennis Richards and Pastor Gary Shields will officiate. Military rites will be conducted by Kienow-Hilt V.F.W. Post #1621 following the services. Private entombment will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery Mausoleum.
