JANESVILLE - Gregory A. Lein, age 74, of Janesville, went home to be with the lord on January 20, 2024, at Mercy Hospital, after a long battle with Dementia. On July 22, 1949, Greg was born to Julian and Jean Lein in Edgerton, where he was raised and attended school. There he met the love of his life and high school sweetheart, Barbara Janet (Sanderson). They eloped and married on May 3rd, 1969. shortly after they married, Greg enlisted in the military, proudly serving his country in the United States Army. He served as a combat medic in the Vietnam War. Greg was almost never seen without his Vietnam Veterans hat and was proud of his service to his country.
Together Greg and Barb had three children, Christine, Heather, and Michael. Greg worked at Space Saver in Ft. Atkinson, WI for over 22 years and was always known as a hardworking and dedicated employee. Together, he and Barb also owned Barbs Flowers in Janesville, WI. Greg and Barb shared several passions together, traveling, collecting Coca Cola memorabilia, spending winters at their Florida home, but most memorably will be their beloved Corvette Club and all the special friends they made along the road in their 2002, yellow Corvette.
Greg loved the simple things in life. Like going for drives with his granddaughter, Hattie or fishing with his son, Bubba. Collecting Hot Wheels with his twin grandsons, Cliff, and Collin. Watching his granddaughter, Addison play Volleyball with his daughter, Chris. Eating brownies made by his daughter, Heather, and being with his dogs, Jake, and Lola. In the summer his favorite thing to do was mow his lawn. And he could often be found relaxing with an ice-cold Coke in his hand. His presence will be missed in all these things and the memories made will be cherished forever.
Greg is survived by his wife of 54 years, Barb Lein; his children, Christine Lein, Heather and Paul Burnside, and Michael Lein; his twin grandsons, Cliff (Kendra) and Collin (Siahra) Miller; granddaughter, Hattie Burnside; grandson, Evan (Clare) Burnside; granddaughter, Addison Lein; and his great granddaughter, Finley, who affectionately called him Grandpa Great. The family would like to give special thanks to Dr. Lisa Boyle and Dr. Leif Paulson with the VA for their outstanding care of Greg over the years, as well as his care giver, Beverly Hanson for her care and friendship.
Greg was preceded in death by his father, Julian Lein; mother, Jean Lein; brother, Stuart Lein; and his best friend, Jack.
