October 24, 1949 — April 24, 2024

Gary K. Nordeng, age 74, of Janesville passed away on April 24, 2024, after a brief stay at St. Elizabeth Nursing Home. He was born on October 24, 1949 in Monroe, WI, the son of Oscar J. and Marylin (Wells) Nordeng. He grew up in Footville and went to Parkview High School until the 11th grade when the family moved to Janesville where he was a member of the Class of 1967 at Janesville High School.

Gary served in the U. S. Marine Corps from 1969 to 1971, thankfully not having seen combat duty in Vietnam. Gary retired from General Motors after 31 years then went on to become a master builder for Schuler’s Country Furniture. He shared his talents making, repairing and creating custom woodworking. Ever the go to guy, he could fix almost anything. Gary was an avid reader, antique collector ad movie watcher. One proud achievement was earning his MENSA (high IQ) membership.

Gary is survived by his wife, Linda, whom he married in November 1984: children, James (Bernadine) Nordeng, Stephanie (Ken) Champion and Joseph Nordeng; step-sons, Nathanial Bornbach and Ryan (Christine) Bornbach, whom he lovingly helped raise. Grandchildren Leah (Aaron) McCarthy, Ethan (Lyssa) Champion, Hunter (Khali) Nordeng, Tianna Nordeng. Step grandson, Milo. Great-grandchildren, Ember, Colton and Drake Champion, Rae Ann McCarthy with a great grandchild to arrive in October and a step great grandchild to arrive in June. He is further survived by his siblings; Beth Duffield, Jody Collins, Blaine (Sally) Nordeng; the mother of his children the former Sherry Kraus as well as multiple sisters in law and brothers in law.

Gary was preceded in death by his parents, mother in law and father in law, Betty and David Gajdosik, brothers in law Ray Duffield and Jim Gajdosik Sr. and sister in law Clara Hartman.

The family was assisted by HENKE-CLARSON FUNERAL HOME & CREMATORY with a private family gathering. Memorial contributions may be directed to any veterans organization or local food pantry. Online condolences and remembrances are welcome at www.henkeclarson.com.

GARY. YOU WILL BE DEARLY MISSED BY ALL WHO KNEW AND LOVED YOU.
