Duane Lawrence “Dewey” Cooper, age 88, of Janesville passed away at Cedar Crest on Monday, April 24, 2023. He was born in Janesville on August 7, 1934, the son of Bert and Alice (Mathews) Cooper.
Dewey graduated from Janesville High School in 1952. He joined the U. S. Air Force on November 18, 1952 and was discharged on October 29, 1956. While in the Air Force, he was a mechanic and served overseas in Libya. He attended college in La Crosse, WI and Rockford, IL for a time. On June 24, 1961, Dewey was united in marriage to Kathleen McCluskey.
Dewey was employed as a truck driver for several years prior to going to work at the Janesville Post Office where he retired after 34 years as a window clerk.
Dewey was a member of the Golden “K” Kiwanis and the Janesville Elks Lodge. He enjoyed bowling, hunting, and in retirement especially, he enjoyed golfing.
Surviving include his wife of 61 years, Kathleen Cooper; son, Douglas G. (Melissa) Cooper; granddaughters, Tegan Kay Marie Cooper and Kyleigh Anne Cooper; sisters, Barbara (Robert) Richter, Maxine McKilligin, Shirley Cooper; brothers, Everett (Lynda) Cooper, Donald (Marjorie) Cooper; numerous nieces and nephews.
Dewey was preceded in death by his daughter, Debra Kay Cooper; his parents, Bert and Alice Cooper; sisters Dorothy, Lorraine, Gwendolyn and Carol; brother Roger.
Visitation will be held at the HENKE-CLARSON FUNERAL HOME 1010 N. Wright Road, Janesville from 10:30 a.m. until 12 Noon on Saturday, May 6, 2023 followed by a memorial service at 12 Noon Saturday, May 6th at the FUNERAL HOME. Rev. Jerry Amstutz will officiate. Military rites will be conducted by Kienow-Hilt V.F.W. Post # 1621. Private interment will be in Milton Lawns Memorial Park.
