With great sadness we announce the passing of Dorothy, our loving and devoted mother and friend to all whose lives were touched by her kind and caring ways. The Lord called her to her eternal home on July 9, 2024, at home in Janesville, Wisconsin surrounded by family. She was 89 years old.
The second of five sisters, Dorothy was born in Merrill, Wisconsin to Eugene (a hydro- electric engineer) and Edith (an art teacher and devoted 4H leader).
She attended nursing school in Winona Minnesota. Her nursing career expanded over 40 years including working in the ER, newborn care and other hospital units with half of her career working in skilled nursing homes. “When a nurse, always a nurse”. So, even when her nursing career ended her kind, caring and nurturing ways were still the core of who she was.
She met the love of her life, Al Niehoff, on a blind date that was set up by a mutual friend. They were married for 42 years. From that union they have two daughters: Mary (Mark) and Penny (Ed), five grandchildren; Chelsea, Tyler (Stephanie), Cody, Sierra and Garrett and one great grandchild, Levi who was born on her 85th birthday.
In addition to her children and their families, she is survived by her sisters Carol, and Barbie. She is preceded in death by her husband Al, and sisters Betty Jean and Arlene and her beloved cat, Smokie, who was a faithful loving companion as she mourned the death of her husband Al.
She will be dearly missed- since there’s no one who knew how to listen better when we were sad… No one better who knew how to make us laugh and enjoy the moment… No one better to share faith and prayer with… We were blessed to know her as our Mother, Grandma and friend!
