Donald F. Mcgarvie

Donald F. McGarvie, age 91, of Janesville passed away at his home on Sunday, November 26, 2023. He was born August 1, 1932 in Linn Township, Walworth County, WI, the oldest of eight children of Floyd and Pauline (Miller) McGarvie. He graduated from Janesville Senior High School in 1950 and was a U.S. Army veteran.

Donald met the love of his life at the Ace High Roller Rink where he and his future wife, Dayle Haynes enjoyed dance skating together. They were married on September 6, 1958. He was employed for 36 years by General Motors until retiring in 1990.

Donald was an avid tennis player and at one time was a member of the Janesville Tennis Association. He also coached tennis for a time at Oak Lawn Academy. He enjoyed playing chess and was a past chess champion while he was a member of the Janesville Chess Club. In addition, Donald was an avid bowler for many years. He was a member of U.A.W. Local # 95 and Cargill United Methodist Church.

Donald McGarvie is survived by his wife of 65 years, Dayle McGarvie; children, Cherylyn (Ken), Douglas (Michele) McGarvie; grandchildren, Andrew McGarvie and Ashli McGarvie; great-grandson, Brantley Laack; sisters, Arlene Katcher, Esther Stratton, numerous other relatives and friends. In addition to his parents, Donald was preceded in death by his sisters and brothers; Barbara Fessenden, Shirley Mooney, David McGarvie, Charles McGarvie and Carol McGarvie.

Private family services to include words of assurance by Rev. Stuart Allen will be held on Monday, December 4, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. at MILTON LAWNS MEMORIAL PARK CHAPEL.
