Charlane Joyce Gibney, age 88, of Milton, WI went to be with her Savior on Monday, July 22nd. Charlane was born on the family farm in rural Kendall, WI on May 21st, 1936 as the only daughter of Henry and Helen (Eberhardt) Friske. She graduated from Kendall High School in 1954 and then moved to Madison, WI where she was employed by Red Dot and the Wisconsin Department of Taxation. Charlane married her high school sweetheart, Bob Gibney, on June 1st, 1957 at St John’s Lutheran Church in Kendall and then moved to Janesville, WI. Throughout their 67 years of marriage, they were blessed with four children, Judy (Mike) Stoney of Clinton, Susan Gibney (Jon) Bartz of Milton, Mark (Sue) Gibney of Janesville and Steven Gibney of Milton. They also welcomed 4 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild.
Charlane was a longtime member of St Matthew’s Lutheran Church where she was a member of the Ladies Evening Guild and served on the Meals On Wheels Program for over 50 years. She also worked at Parker Pen for several years while raising their children and later worked for the Janesville School System. Charlane was a very social person and enjoyed playing cards, visiting with friends, listening to Polka music, dancing, bowling, putting together puzzles and reading books and magazines. Charlane collected Cardinals and has over 200 beautiful pieces in their home. She also enjoyed traveling and sightseeing. Bob and Charlane visited all 50 States in the U.S. and traveled to several countries in Europe. She also sailed on many cruises with friends and family. Charlane really enjoyed attending class reunions, family reunions and social events where she could reminisce with all her relatives and friends. Charlane was loved by many and will be greatly missed.
Charlane is survived by her husband of 67 years, her four children, four grandchildren, 1 great grandchild, her brother, Harlan (Leona) Friske of Viroqua, WI, along with several nieces, relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the American Cancer Society or St Matthew’s Lutheran Church.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am, Friday, July 26, 2024 at St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church, 709 Milton Avenue, Janesville, WI. Dale Beutin will officiate. Burial will be in Milton Lawns Memorial Park. Visitation is from 5-7 pm on Thursday, July 25th at Henke-Clarson Funeral Home, 1010 N Wright Road, Janesville, WI and from 10 am until the time of the service at the church.
