Bruce Bumbard

Bruce Bumbard age 92 of Janesville, WI passed away on Friday, November 17, 2023 at Cedar Crest. He was born on August 25, 1931 in Rockford, IL, the son of Peter and Mabel (Hunt) Bumbard. The family resided in the Rockford area for a time until they moved to a dairy farm near Fort Atkinson, WI. Bruce graduated from Fort Atkinson High School and while he was attending high school, he met the love of his life, Wilma “Billie” Boese.

Following graduation from high school Bruce worked on the family farm and graduated from U W River Falls. Bruce entered the U.S. Army on November 20, 1953 and was honorably discharged on November 9, 1955. While in the service, Bruce and his high school sweet-heart Wilma were united in marriage on June 12, 1954.

Following service, Bruce went to work for Mann Brothers Construction Company. He later purchased L & M Burial Vault Company in Janesville and the family moved to Janesville. After retiring from the vault company, Bruce who always enjoyed being busy became a partner in the Prairie Plant Farm on Prairie Road, Janesville. After he sold his interest in the plant farm, he worked for a time for Imperial Engraving. During all of this time, he and his wife, Billie purchased numerous homes in Janesville, remodeled, rented and sold them.

Bruce and Billie enjoyed being snowbirds to Arizona. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, and spending time with his family and friends. He was a member of the Janesville Masonic Lodge.

Bruce Bumbard is survived by his daughters; Cindy (Stan) Eddy of Oregon, WI, Vicky (Tom) Hirsch of Janesville; four grandchildren, Scott Eddy, Cassie (Ben) Egge, Ross (Kali) Eddy, Peter Hirsch; four great-grandchildren, Graeme Eddy, Rory Eddy, Bowen Egge, Emmerson Egge; sister, Helen Roser, sisters-in-law Barbara Huber, Arvilla “Skeeter” (Stan) Johnson and Sally Smith. He was preceded in death by his wife, Wilma “Billie” Bumbard on March 31, 2019. He was also preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers and a sister.

Visitation will be from 10:30 a.m. to Noon Tuesday, November 28, 2023 at HENKE-CLARSON FUNERAL HOME, 1010 N. Wright Road, Janesville. Funeral services follow at Noon Tuesday, November 28th at the FUNERAL HOME, with Chaplain Cameron Rebarchek officiating, to be followed by military rites conducted by Kienow-Hilt V.F.W. Post # 1621. Private entombment will be in Milton Lawns Memorial Park Mausoleum.
