Betty Ramona Mallu

Betty Ramona Mallu (nee Schaber), aged 99, passed away peacefully on October 6, 2024, in Somers, Wisconsin. Born on February 20, 1925, in Janesville, Wisconsin, she was known for her loving nature, devotion to family, and steadfast commitment to Christian values.


Betty attended Janesville Public Schools and graduated from Janesville High School in 1943. She met Erwin Mallu in 1944 and they married on June 10, 1945 in Janesville. Her career spanned several respected institutions, including the Parker Pen Company, Gibbs Manufacturing and Research Corporation, and the Rock County Healthcare Center, where she contributed significantly to each establishment's success. She attended Blackhawk Technical College, where she trained as a Certified Nursing Assistant

A committed Christian, Betty was an active member of Cargill United Methodist Church in Janesville, Wisconsin. Her faith was a cornerstone of her life, guiding her actions and interactions. She was deeply involved in the church's activities, particularly the music ministry, reflecting her love for music which resonated through her life.

Betty's leadership extended beyond her professional life into her personal passions. She was a lifetime member and president of the International Machinists Union, AFL-CIO, advocating tirelessly for workers' rights. Her hobbies included music, dancing, playing cards, and, most importantly, spending cherished moments with her grandchildren and daughters.

She is survived by her daughters, Patricia (Steven) Gmeinder, Carol (Timothy) Manthei, and Marie (Richard) Severing; grandchildren, Michelle (Jason) Quednow, Ryan (Mary) Manthei, Alexander Gmeinder, Dr. Alyson (Ian McManama) Manthei, Elizabeth (Adam) Inclan, Jonathan (Natalie) Gmeinder, Kathryn (Dr. Jeremy) Fox, Nicholas Gmeinder (Keri Ives), and Simon Gmeinder (Haley Griffin); and great-grandchildren, Genevieve, William, Hayes, Adelyn, Grace, Victoria, Elyana, Landon, Connor and Eleanor. Thank you, also, to Sandra Butler, a nurturer who provided love and care to Betty. Betty was preceded in death by her son, Russell Reuter, her parents, Byron Schaber, Gertrude Schaber Bayer, stepfather, Erhard Bayer, and former husband, Erwin Mallu.

A service to celebrate Betty's life will be held on Monday, October 28, 2024, at 12:00 PM at Cargill United Methodist Church, 2000 Wesley Avenue, Janesville, Wisconsin 53545. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Cargill United Methodist Church Music Ministry, directed by Richard Severing, which was close to her heart. Betty's legacy of kindness, dedication, and love will forever resonate with those who were fortunate enough to know her.
