JANESVILLE - With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our beloved Audrey Mae Rich, a pillar of strength, kindness, and love. She departed this world on October 12, 2023, leaving a void that can never be filled. She was 78 years old.
Audrey was born on October 9, 1945, in Mattoon, Wisconsin to Vilas and Norma (Bierman) Hanke. In 1966, Audrey met the love of her life, Donald Rich, and they married on January 14, 1967. Audrey and Donald resided in Janesville, Wisconsin until her death. Audrey was employed by Diversified Building Maintenance but spent many years as the family caregiver.
Audrey is survived by her loving husband, Don; and her adoring son, Don (Jodi) Rich, Jr. She leaves behind four precious grandchildren, Krystal Wethal, Katie (Steve) Murphy, Taylor (Spencer) Warrenburg, and Hunter Rich, who were the twinkle in her eye and the joy of her heart. She also leaves behind one great-grandchild, Marlee Wethal-Combs, with whom she shared a special bond with. In addition to her son and grandchildren, Audrey is survived by her siblings, Shirley Mielke, James (Tracey) Hanke, and Gary (Shelly) Hanke. Audrey leaves behind many nieces, nephews, and friends who felt like family. She is preceded in death by her son, Troy Pfeiffer; parents, Vilas and Norma Hanke; brother, Bobby Hanke; sister, Judy Anderson; brother-in-law, Kurt Mielke; and her beloved dog, Thor.
But Audrey was not defined by mere statistics. She was a person of exceptional character, known for being an avid video game player and an arm-wrestling champion in Janesville. Her compassion touched lives, and her laughter was the soundtrack of our gatherings. Audrey Rich was the shoulder we leaned on, the wise counselor in our times of need, and the hand that lifted us in our darkest hours.
The funeral service to honor Audrey’s memory will be held on Tuesday, October 17, 2023, at 12 Noon at HENKE-CLARSON FUNERAL HOME, 1010 N. Wright Road Janesville. A visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 17th at the FUNERAL HOME from 10 a.m. until 12 Noon.
Following the service, we will gather at Milton Lawns Memorial Park, to lay her to rest. We invite all friends and family to join us in celebrating Audrey’s life, sharing stories, and saying our final goodbyes.
Audrey may have left this world, but her spirit will forever resonate in our hearts and memories.
