Andrew Gregory Wojdula, 80, passed away on June 19, 2023 in Bonita Springs, FL. He was born October 28, 1942 in East Chicago, Indiana to Mary (Makay) and Andrew J. Wojdula.
Andy met his beloved wife Donna (Boltz) at the University of Wisconsin-Madison on a blind date. After graduation, they had a Valentine’s Day wedding in February of 1965. They recently celebrated 58 years of marriage. Donna and Andy were blessed with two children, Andrew Joseph ‘Joe’ (Elizabeth) and Ann Marie (Marty) Gallagher. Andy’s deep pride were his grandsons Zachary, Matthew and Jack. He also cherished his time spent with extended family: Bonnie & Bill Mann, Greg & Mary Jo Schuenke and Jack & Donna Boltz and all his nieces and nephews.
Andy was named a National High School All American Football Player and chose to continue his education and football career at the University of Wisconsin to be a Badger. He would later tell you it was God’s doing that he ended up in Madison. He was an integral teammate in the 1963 Rose Bowl vs. USC. The following year Andy was co-captain for the team along with his good friend Ken Bowman. The Rose Bowl teammates continue their strong bond of friendship to this very day. Andy was a member of Phi Delta Theta fraternity and served as Vice President of the UW class of 1964. Andy’s dedication as a Badger continued past graduation, through his membership in the UW Alumni Association in which he served as the National President in 1988, as well as serving on the UW Athletic Board where he was instrumental in the selection of Pat Richter as Athletic Director and Barry Alvarez as Head Coach.
After graduating with a BS in Business and a MBA, Andy started his career in Human Resources and worked for Standard Oil of Indiana. He moved on to Blue Cross and American Hospital Supply, where he traveled to Iran and Saudi Arabia to assist in establishing and supplying hospitals. He became interested in professional recruiting and struck out in 1988 forming his own professional recruiting firm, Wojdula & Associates, ultimately retiring in 2008.
After spending many vacations in Florida, Andy and Donna decided to become snowbirds. They would spend their winters in Bonita Springs, returning to enjoy the Wisconsin summers on Whitewater Lake. Andy and Donna spent many happy, active days enjoying tennis, golf and biking. He also loved fishing in the Gulf.
Andy lived life with a volunteer’s heart evidenced by membership in the Jaycees, various homeowner’s association boards, creation and management of the association websites, tutoring high school students in Florida, and providing career counseling to younger UW athletes and students.
His dedication to our Savior was evident to those who knew Andy. He loved attending Promise Keepers events and every night he would pray for his children (he considered Elizabeth and Marty his children too), his grandsons, family and friends. He was a caring, kind, compassionate man who was loyal to God, his family and his friends. He will leave a big hole in our hearts but he lived a good and contented life.
Donations can be made in memory of Andy to College Susan Schuenke (CSS - a Haitian ministry dear to his heart dedicated to his late sister-in-law, Susan) at www.visionofhopeministries.org or Hope Parkinson’s Program at www.hopeparkinson.org.
