Alice Mae Peterson, age 91, a long-time Janesville resident passed away peacefully on June 17, 2023 surrounded by her family at St. Mary’s Care Center, Madison. Alice was born in Appleton, WI on December 1, 1931, the daughter of Paul and Meta (Scholz) Rohloff. She attended St. Paul’s Lutheran School, Appleton and graduated from Appleton Senior High School in June 1949.
Alice married Elroy M. Peterson on October 8, 1949. He preceded her in death on April 9, 2011. She was employed in the shipping department at the Parker Pen Company for 31 years prior to retiring in 1996. She was a member of St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church and its Fellowship Club, the AFL-CIO union and Sons of Norway. In 1969, Alice was presented with a “Heroism Award” by the State Fire Association for her rescue of a five year old boy from a burning car in the Creston Park parking lot.
Above all else, Alice will be remembered as a loving wife, mother and grandmother whose greatest love was her family.
Alice Peterson is survived by four daughters; Cynthia Peterson of Fitchburg, WI, Sallie Szilveszter of Wild Rose, WI, Sandra (Michael) Baze of Ocean Park, WA, Susan (Scott) Rucas of Cypress, TX; two sisters, Ruth Smith, Marion (Richard ) Hinz of Appleton, WI; grandchildren, Stacy (Carter) Rierson of Waunakee, WI, Angela (Justin) Ayers of Chandler, AZ, Danielle (Chuck) Watson of South Beloit, IL, Tim (Kylie) Szilveszter of Danville, IN, Matt Szilveszter of Wild Rose, WI, Bianca Baze of Dallas, TX, Hailey (Andre) Boudreaux of Austin, TX, Zac Rucas of Mesa, AZ; 12 great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by seven brothers and sisters.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 24, 2023 at ST. PAUL’S EVANGELICAL LUTHEAN CHURCH, 210 South Ringold Street, Janesville. Rev. Daniel Decker will officiate. Burial will follow in Milton Lawns Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. Saturday, June 24th at the CHURCH. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church. The Peterson family is being assisted by HENKE-CLARSON FUNERAL HOME.
