Odell B. Flister Sr.
July 13, 1927 - December 19, 2012
Odell B. Flister Sr., 85 of Janesville was born to Olaf and Isabelle (Johnson) Flister on July 13, 1927 in Mauston, WI. Soon after his birth, the Lord brought Odell into the family of believers by giving him second-birth through the washing of Holy Baptism. In his baptism, God promised to be his God, to forgive his sins and take him home to heaven; a promise our gracious Lord has now kept.
Odell grew up in Edgerton, WI and graduated from Edgerton High School. After graduation, Odell enlisted in the U. S. Navy. Odell worked at the Highway Trailer Company in Edgerton, General Motors and owned his own business, 5 Points Standard Service, was employed by Sunnyside Shell Service and retired as a custodian at Craig High School.
On January 16, 1948, Odell married Helen Rogers in the parsonage of Central Lutheran Church in Edgerton. The Lord blessed them with two daughters and three sons. Susan Kay Flister, Constance (Delmar) Cox, James (Jonette) Flister, John (Gail) Flister, Odell Jr. (Julie) Flister, eleven grandchildren; Jason (Dawn) Cox, Aimee (David) Harnack, James Jr. (Patti) Flister, Joseph (Gina) Flister, Abigail Flister, Michael Flister, Annabel (Brandon) Mattox, Matthew Flister, Kady, Kylee and Hannah Flister; thirteen great-grandchildren, McCauley, Kennedy, and Keeley Cox, Teagan and Tia Harnack, Andrew and Carly Flister, Hannah and Genna Myhre, Henry and Grace Flister, Aniya and Jordan Mattox.
Odell was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Last Wednesday, December 19, 2012, Odell lost his courageous battle with cancer. He was surrounded by his loving family when the Lord sent angels to escort him to heaven, where he is now rejoicing before the throne of God and in front of the Lamb. Odell is survived by his wife, Helen, his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, his sister, Nora Kraft and brother Carleton Flister. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Susan Kay Flister, son, John Flister, his parents, Olaf and Isabelle (Johnson) Flister, three brothers, Andries, Wilmer and Martin Flister, three sisters, Cora Jandro, Birget Hardy and Ida Flister.
Odell enjoyed spending time with his family at the family cabin in Friendship, WI. He liked hunting and fishing as well as bird watching. He was an avid fan of the Packers, Brewers and Badgers.
Visitation will be held at Henke-Clarson Funeral Home, 1010 N. Wright Rd., Janesville, WI from 4 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, December 26, 2012. Funeral services will be held at St. John Lutheran Church, 302 N. Parker Drive, Janesville at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, December 27th. Pastor Bond Haldeman and Pastor Bruce Gray will officiate. Burial services with military rites by Kienow-Hilt V.F.W. Post # 1621 will be at 1 p. m. Thursday at Jenson Cemetery, Edgerton. Memorials may be made to St. John Lutheran Church Youth Group or St. Peter’s Lutheran Church Youth Group.
